Vince Fumo (Vincent Joseph Fumo) is a former Pennsylvania state senator who served between 1978 and 2008. He was a member of the Democratic Party in the state. Fumo was known for his extensive knowledge of state government and his ability to deliver hundreds of millions of dollars in state funds to Philadelphia, the largest city in the state. He was also known for his volatile temper and his tendency to lash out at those who crossed him.
Fumo was indicted in 2007 on 139 counts of conspiracy, fraud, and obstruction of justice. He was accused of using his position as a state senator to defraud the state and nonprofit organizations. He was found guilty on all 137 criminal charges in 2009 and was sentenced to 55 months in prison and ordered to pay $3.5 million in restitution.
Fumo was released from prison in August 2013 after serving four years and seven months. Since his release, he has been working with former prisoners to help them adjust to life outside prison.
